Humane Society Pick Of The Week 12/19

Look into the eyes of royalty! Our charming pick of the week is Princess, a five year old St. Bernard.
Princess is a girl with a big heart looking for a family to give her the best Christmas present, her forever home. As a large breed St. Bernard's can develop joint and hip problems. Humane Society Pick Of The Week 12/12/12!

Fish is our lucky pick of the week for this special 12/12/12 edition! She is a spayed blue/cream domestic shorthair around 3 years old. This Friday December 14 the Humane Society will be hosting Pooch on the Pond. An adoption event at an exciting hockey game. The Utah Grizzlies will be taking on the Alaska Aces at 7:00 pm. During the intermission the Humane Society will be putting on an ice pageant to show off their furry friends. Come support your team and see some great pets! There is a $20 admission fee for you and your dog.

Humane Society Pick Of The Week 11/21

We could not resist sharing this sweet face! This Pit Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix is named Lori. She is about 7 months old and looking for some love! A faithful and loving companion is in her nature, how can you say no to those eyes? You can find Lori online at www.utahhumane,org her ID# is A060392. For all of you Walking Dead Fans, this Lori is sweet and loyal.

A fun fact, Ghost Adventures star Zak Bagans has recently adopted a sweet dog named Gracie. She even accompanies them on their lock downs in haunted locations. Animals have been known to be sensitive to paranormal energy, and it seems that Gracie and Zak were meant for each other.

Our happy pick of the week is this sweet boy named Max. Max is a youthful border collie mix around the age of 8 months. He is neutered and current on all of his shots. We have a lot of exciting things to talk about this week! So we thought we would do a double feature from the Utah Humane Society to celebrate!

Lester is our canine choice for this week's edition. We met him this past weekend at an adoption event at our local Petco. He is a 7 year old chocolate and white labrador retriever. While you are out looking for a new pet you can stop by the Humane Society for a picture with your animal or even your family and get a picture with Santa. Wolf Awareness Day!

This Saturday October 20th is wolf awareness day at Utah's Hogle Zoo. The keepers will be putting on demonstrations throughout the day and sharing information about these wonderful animals. You can learn more about these activities on their website at www.hoglezoo.org.

We are pleased to announce that the wolf population in the U.S. is growing at a healthy pace! However, this also means that they have been taken off the endangered species list. Is it fair to be allowed to shoot these creatures when it is us who have invaded their space? You decide! Comment and let us know your opinion on the matter.

She is an Akbash mix with a stunning white coat and long legs that make her an irresistible companion. Tasha seems to get along great with other dogs and people. Humane Society Pick of the Week 9/26

We have a lot of exciting information this week! Lets start with our lovable pick of the week Onyx. He is a neutered black lab about 7 months old. This guy has a lot of energy and would be a great hiking, swimming, or work out buddy. Let's help Onyx find his forever home! Some exciting things are happening this weekend. On Friday the 28th Utah's Hogle Zoo is hosting an adoption event. The admission into the event is free, but zoo admission is still required. The event goes from 10-4 PM and you can find it just east of the main entrance. Come join our local adoption agencies and spread the word so we can find these animals good homes!

Our next big announcement is our Art Eco Utah craft sale! We will be joining some of our supporters Saturday the 28th and selling some of our artwork! Remember, we donate 40% of our proceeds to conservation, shelters, and more. So with every piece we sell we are helping make changes to better our world. We had an amazing time today at the Salt Lake City Strut your Mutt event! The event was very well organized, we were able to sign in and get ourselves geared up in our event T-shirts quickly. The one mile walk around Liberty Park was so much for dogs and owners. Lucy was  very happy to make so many new friends! The turnout for the event was amazing, to see so many people coming together to help save shelter animals. We have currently raised about 61% of our goal for Salt Lake but there is still time to get your donations at http://www.strutyourmutt.org/ After the walk we were directed to areas filled with booths contests, and live music. Lucy was a runner up for "Dog with the Biggest Head" contest! We got to network with a bunch of groups passionate about similar things as us. After some face painting and free merchandise we headed home. We would like to thank Best Friends Animal Society and No More Homeless Pets for allowing us to be a part of such a good cause.

Strut your Mutt 2012

Isle Of Dogs Treat Review

Let me introduce you to my three wonderful dogs!

Jack-Border Collie Age 9

Albert- Australian Shepherd Age 4

Lucy- Great Pyrenees Age 4

I have recently purchased some wonderful treats at PETCO for my three dogs in hopes that they would enjoy them. My dogs tend to be picky but I wanted to buy a healthier alternative and find something to help a few of their problems. We purchased the Isle of Dogs Joint, and Smile treats to help with our aging dogs and keep their teeth and gums healthy. To my surprise all three of my dogs loved them! I had to break them in half for Lucy to chew but they were a big hit! I can now feel good about what I am giving my dogs since they are made with high quality ingredients. We will be buying these for a long time to come.

Humane Society Pick Of The Week 9/5

This week we have decided to feature Bella. She is an energetic Australian Cattle Dog mix. We got to meet her on our last trip to the Humane Society Of Utah and she was very happy to have the attention. Bella is estimated to be a little over 1 year old. This beautiful girl is going to need a family with a lot of time and energy to give. Lets help Bella find her forever home where she will get lots of exercise and love.

Soldier Hollow Sheepdog Classic!

Yesterday we got to spend a lot of time watching the strong connection between dogs and their owners at the sheepdog championship. The entry price was very reasonable and there was a lot of entertainment for everyone. We began our day with watching some amazing dogs herd sheep. It takes a lot of patience for both dog and owner to be able to complete this challenge. No matter how skilled a dog may be we found that sometimes the sheep will just not cooperate!

After the herding event we watched the splash dogs compete to jump the furthest. Dogs of all breeds were able to get a chance to show off their abilities. The excitement of the animals kept spectators at the edge of their seats! We had an incredible time watching these dogs doing what they loved.

Vendors of all types had showed up from artists and jewelers to sanctuaries with adoptable animals. We got to see the friendly staff from Willow Creek Pet Center, (we have taken our pets there for emergency help and are very satisfied with their facility!). We also fell in love with some of the animals from Friends of Animals Utah, a particular favorite was Hercules.

We were thrilled when we got to meet the beautiful dogs from Pawsatch Snow Dogs. The owners happily introduced us to all of their sled dogs and did an exciting demonstration of their teamwork. We got to learn about the different positions and importance of the placement of each dog on the line. They also told us about how they got some of their rescue dogs. It is always good to hear the stories of dogs finding their forever homes. We would like to thank Neal Bowlen and everyone else from Pawsatch for the great experience!

Humane Society Pick of the Week August 29th

Our pick for this week is a happy guy named Sir William. The staff estimates him to be around 5 years old. Recently, we got to visit him, (and a few other friends from past blog posts) when we went to see the newly opened Kitty City at the Utah Humane Society. We were so impressed with how open, clean, and accessible all the animals were. The cats had large rooms with fun gymnasiums to climb and explore. Our very own Sir William had climbed his way to the top of one of these climbing posts and was resting in the sun. It was an impressive show of his agility even though he is a larger kitty! We got to meet, pet, and love all the cats with ease in this fun new facility. Kitty City is now open at the Utah Humane Society at 4242 S. 300 W. I highly suggest you pay them a visit if you are looking to adopt any kind of pet. They had a wonderful selection of loving animals from dogs to rats! Visit them online here!

P.S. Mickey from one of our past posts is still in need of a forever home! He is a very loving dog and was happy to see us at our visit this week. If you have room in your home please give one of our friends a chance!

It's time to meet our adorable pick of the week! Our handsome pick is an akita/labrador mix named Mickey. He is estimated to be 1 year and 2 months. This guy is going to need a home where he can receive lots of love and attention including; grooming, exercise, and loving interaction. Humane Society Pick of the Week August 8th!

This adorable girl is a Corgi/Cardigan mix. Her name is Chance and the staff estimates she is around 13 years old. Corgi's are bred to heard and naturally have a lot of spunk.  A home with a lot of love to give and energy to spend with her would be an ideal fit. Energy Saving Tip

Empty space in a fridge takes energy to cool. So when you are in between visits to the grocery store try storing a box in your fridge. This fills up negative space and saves you energy and money! You can add a crafty flair by turning it into a fridge monster, eating up all your left overs! So help save the environment while cutting back your power bills.

Humane Society Pick of the Week! July 25

                                 



This adorable guy is our first rabbit to be featured on our blog. His name is Po and is about 2 years old. His sweet lopped ears and black and white fur give him a unique look. He has been with the shelter since May 22, 2012. You can find Po and many other animals in need of forever homes at www.utahhumane.org. Lets work together to give these creatures the life they deserve.

This pretty girl is Penelope. She is about three years old with beautiful brown and white short hair. These eyes are just to die for! If you have room in your heart and in your home please visit her in person or online at www.utahhumane.org. Fostering a homeless pet until they find their forever home might also be a good option for those wanting to help. These animals all deserve love and attention.
